HERBICIDE APPLICATION - BRUSH MANAGEMENT

Description
Task 1: Herbicide Application (235 acres)
Contractor must systematically grid out 235 acres of IHAP and apply Garlon 3A, or the generic equivalent pre-approved by the DNR Project Manager, to spot treat trees on specified properties located in Harrison County, Iowa. On average, the canopy cover of trees in the grassland is between 5-10% with trees ranging between 5-10 feet in height. See are in blue on Attachment A.
• Foliar spray mix must consist of at least 2% solution of triclopyr and a non-ionic surfactant containing penetrant. Rate of surfactant must be per the label recommendations.
• Sufficient spray volume should be used to obtain complete coverage of the target plant foliage.
• 1 week after initial herbicide application, Contractor must complete a follow-up systematic search to spot treat any trees that were missed in the initial application.
• The Contractor must adhere to all manufacture chemical directions including application rate using the DNR pre-approved chemical.
Contractor must hold an Iowa Commercial Pesticide Applicators License issued by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) Pesticide Bureau and provide the license # to the DNR Project Manager.
Task 2: Brush Management (35 Acres)
Description: Contractor must remove woody species in the treatment area outlined in red on Attachment A that are not able to be completed covered with a foliar herbicide application. Woody species can be removed by mulching with a forestry mulcher, cutting at the base, or other pre-approved methods of mechanical removal.
Undesirable woody species must be removed to ground level.
Task 3: Follow-Up Herbicide Application (35 Acres)
Description: Contractor shall apply herbicide to undesirable woody species that were mechanically removed in Task 2. The area of treatment is outlined in red on Attachment A.
• If the contractor cuts the trees at their base, the stumps must be immediately treated with Garlon 3A or an approved equivalent.
• If the contractor mulches the trees, the resprouts must be treated with Garlon 3A the following growing season (August 1st to September 1st, 2023).
Herbicide must be applied at the labeled rate for the method of application used.
