Description
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, as the state coordinator for refugees, must receive notification regarding any of the national agencies contemplating establishing an affiliate in Iowa, and also must receive information directly from Iowa-based affiliates prior to adopting their annual ‘goals’ for the number of refugees they plan to resettle in the state in the coming year. The state coordinator convenes quarterly meetings attended by staff of all Iowa affiliates, and coordinates with each of them routinely to assure state benefits support refugee arrivals as much as possible. All affiliates are informed of the availability of this funding.
Goals and Objectives of the program
This program will offer a wide range of opportunities for refugees resettled in Iowa to receive services to address significant barriers to economic self-sufficiency from the same entity that helped them resettle in Iowa, resulting in increased employability and economic self-sufficiency
