Preserving Iowa PBS’s Historical Media Archives
Request for Proposals
Description
Iowa PBS has a large-scale project to preserve the audiovisual materials in their archives. The content of the archive materials is wide-ranging and includes content important to Iowa culture and history. Iowa PBS is requesting proposals for immediately preserving 16mm film, 16mm audio and U-matic video tape and preserving numerous other formats in the future as needed.
Iowa PBS is Iowa’s statewide public broadcasting network. Iowa PBS provides quality, innovative media and services that educate, inform, enrich, and inspire Iowans.
Iowa PBS archives contain both edited and unedited motion picture, video, and audio covering the arts, culture, history, public affairs, rural affairs, nature, science and sports ranging from the late 1960s to the present day.
Media formats in the collection include, but are not limited to the following:
A) 16 mm moving picture and audio
B) U-matic, U-matic SP
C) U-matic PCM 1600, 1610, 1630
D) 1-inch Type C
E) VHS
F) Betacam, Betacam SP, Betacam SX, Digital Betacam
G) DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW
H) XQD Card
I) DV Cam
J) 8 mm video
K) CD
L) ¼ -inch open reel audio
M) ½ -inch open reel audio
All of these assets are currently maintained on-site at Iowa PBS in a temperature controlled environment.
The intent of this RFP is to identify and select a Respondent who can facilitate the following:
1) Physical condition assessment of the analog assets
2) Digitization of assets for preservation and Iowa PBS content production.
